Julie Richardson volunteers daily for A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation doing a job that most people would rather not do. Every morning she reads the newspaper obituaries and sends sympathy cards to families who have lost a loved one to lung cancer. This heartbreaking volunteer duty is an important way to connect grieving families with A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation’s mission to support patients and their families. This duty requires a person who is caring, considerate and strong.
When Julie is not reading obituaries, she volunteers as an A Breath of Hope Ambassador providing companionship and transportation help to patients who face cancer alone or without the support they need.
Julie and her family also sponsor the Twin Cities Lung Run/Walk each year under the name Don’s Bald Eagles. They host an annual garage sale, sell crafts and look for other creative ways to support the foundation and our events.
“My sister, Jolene, signed us up for the Twin Cities Lung Run/Walk in 2009 after my dad, Don Mills, was diagnosed with lung cancer. We lost our dad in July of 2010 and made a promise to continue to support ABOH, hoping to change the stigma and improve the detection, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. We found that supporting ABOH was a way to help us through a very difficult time. Our whole family really likes our time at the Twin Cities Lung Run/Walk, where we can celebrate my dad together and make a difference.”
Thank you, Julie. Your passion and dedication are making a difference.
