Jenni Dyrdahl, Lung Cancer Patient
Jenni Dyrdahl began experiencing severe hip pain in 2017, leading to multiple ER visits where her concerns were dismissed. After a traumatic assault, an x-ray revealed a broken hip—and cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma, a shocking discovery given her healthy lifestyle and status as a non-smoker. The delayed diagnosis forced Jenni to leave her career as a dental hygienist and endure a tough transition to life with chemo and immunotherapy. Frustrated by missed opportunities for earlier detection and biomarker testing, Jenni advocates for broader lung cancer screening and fights against the stigma and insurance challenges faced by patients like her. “Lung cancer can happen to anyone,” she says. “Why aren’t we screening more people?”
