My Breath of Hope Fundraiser – Boogeyman Run

My Breath of Hope: Turning Loss Into Impact

On a summer day filled with the sound of engines, laughter, and shared purpose, riders gather for something bigger than a ride. They gather for Alan J. Wermerskirchen.

After losing Alan on September 6, 2022, to a rare and aggressive cancer he nicknamed “the Boogeyman,” his family and friends refused to let his story end there. Instead, they turned their grief into action through the Boogeyman Run, a motorcycle ride created to honor Alan’s life and support others facing cancer.

Jack, Alan’s best friend, was devastated by the loss of his friend at such a young age. With the help of his mom, Joyce, that grief was turned into purpose through the launch of the Boogeyman Run—now a powerful annual fundraiser for A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation that brings together riders of all ages and experience levels in Alan’s memory.

The 3rd Annual Boogeyman Run is scheduled for July 18, 2026, at the Pickled Pig in Jordan, Minnesota. The event continues to grow each year, and A Breath of Hope is deeply grateful for the generosity and support.

What Is My Breath of Hope?

My Breath of Hope is a program that empowers people to fundraise in their own way—whether that’s a ride, a run, a birthday, a game night, or something entirely unique. It’s about honoring loved ones, celebrating survivorship, and creating hope where it’s needed most.
